FLOWERS IN PARIS

The habit we never quite give up.

There is something particularly Parisian about buying flowers without needing a reason.

A bunch carried home from the market. Tulips wrapped in paper on a Saturday morning. Something small picked up on the way back from lunch.

They are rarely an event. Perhaps that is the point.

FROM THE MARKET

Paris makes flowers unusually easy to incorporate into everyday life.

Markets spill them onto pavements beside fruit, cheese and vegetables. Florists occupy corners that somehow feel incomplete without them.

And when you’re staying in the city for longer than a few nights, buying flowers becomes less like decorating a temporary apartment and more like the first sign that it has started to feel like yours.

FOR THE RESIDENCE

We prefer them relatively undone.

One generous bunch on a dining table. A smaller arrangement beside the bed. A few branches in a tall vase when the season allows.

Nothing too arranged.

BEFORE ARRIVAL

Flowers are also one of the simplest ways to change the feeling of arriving somewhere.

A prepared residence should not feel staged. It should feel as though someone has thought about the person who is about to walk through the door.

Sometimes fresh flowers are enough.

CLÉE CASA NOTE | Buy whatever is in season. Take them home. Don’t overthink the vase.
